Welcome to the Blessed Day study of Hebrews! First of all, your input is welcome and desired!! I believe this study will benefit us all more if we interact with one another and learn from each other's insight.
I'll be honest...I'm a little nervous about leading this. I'm no Bible scholar. I just love Jesus and I love His Word. I'm eager to learn more and in the process, know God's heart better. My Bible study is fairly simple. I use my Bible and a phone or iPad. I enjoy reading different versions of the same passage and looking up words in a concordance. I also enjoy reading commentaries by Bible scholars. (Blue Letter Bible app and BibleHub are good ones!)
I'll utilize the SOAP method each day...
Write Scripture
Make Observations (What is God saying through this verse?)
Make an Application to my own life. (Ask the Holy Spirit what this verse means to me.)
Prayer - I love to pray scripture back to God.
Let's Go!
Hebrews 1:1-4
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
From these few verses, we learn that
JESUS IS:
God's Son
Appointed heir of all things
Creator of the World
Radiance of God's glory
The EXACT imprint of God's nature
Holder of the universe
Purifier of our sins
Seated at the right hand of God
Above the angels
The greek word for RADIANCE is apaugasma meaning "off shining". He is not a mirror image of God. He IS God and radiates God's glory.
The other thing I noticed is that he is seated at the right hand of God. The fact that he is SAT shows us that his purifying work is done. He paid the ultimate price and sacrificed on our behalf so that we could have freedom from the bondage of our sins. In him and through him, we are sanctified (set apart and declared as holy.)
Again...I don't claim to have it all figured out. These are just a few things I gleaned from the first few verses. I'll dig in a little more tomorrow into the rest of Chapter 1.
PLEASE SHARE WHAT YOU LEARNED AS YOU STUDIED!! 🥰
